Welcome to the new year of posts.

I want to just introduce the GAC System, the universal Unity3d combo system I created to be used in your unity game projects. The asset has launched in the Asset Store this past Monday and has been a relative decent seller. Version 1.1 is finished and will be on the store by next week. Here is the Link if interested! Remember to follow the Unity Forums thread or Twitter tag @jrDevarts for any updates or questions.

Thanks.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11594528820855043239noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489126680057980260.post-33061051672826418882013-07-16T10:00:00.001-04:002013-07-16T10:02:32.453-04:00ASE 3.0 Release + Reap Update!Hello all,

I'm back after a long stretch of no posts. I just want to give an update on the new release of ASE 3 on the Unity3D Asset Store. This update has become one of my favorite assets to speed up production of Reap! I have added a lot of new features while developing Reap! which I hope other people find helpful; quite a few of people already have given ASE 3 a go. If you hate setting animation speeds blindly, this is an asset for you.

Besides ASE 3, I have been continually working on Reap! Building levels using the amazing Rotorz Tile System. I will show them off later. I also have been recreating Reap!'s combo system to be universal across multiple projects. Look for that coming soon; it has become pretty awesome. I am finishing up some more code for the asset. It has went through an extensive gruesome 2 week bug test and it's finally over and almost ready for primetime :)

See you soon.

Sorry for the long spread of no updates, was quite busy with project problems (I actually had to redo a lot of stuff). I realize that I am not able to update the blog as I promised, so I can't make that promise again. But I have some new info on another project I worked on while developing Reap! I have launched a new asset on the Unity3d Asset Store called DaW (Direct-a-Wave). This is an enemy wave spawning system that Reap! uses to control waves of enemies. It started off as a bare-bones system but I have put in a lot of work to make it accessible for other projects. Also I've been slowly continuing to transfer my code into uScript Visual Graphs which is another learning process that I am enjoying; its a very powerful system.

Until next time, hopefully more early than 2 months. ;)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11594528820855043239noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489126680057980260.post-26972230307865509112013-02-02T23:37:00.002-05:002013-02-02T23:44:04.106-05:00JS Script Convert to uScript Visual ScriptingHey All! Just a quick update. I'm a currently in the mode of converting my game scripts to uScript Visual Scripting Tool for Unity3D by Detox Studios. It's an awesome tool and I was always more of a visual learner. After I am finished with converting my scripts I will continue to use the tool to finish the app. This will undoubtedly speed up my production time and best of all I will be able to follow and understand my code (gameplay) much better. Here is a pic, for those who don't know what visual scripting is, to show how the code went from JS to 1 uScript node.

I've finally decided to start blogging about my project again. I am going to start updating at least once a week (I promise) and continue showing behind the scenes dev work on my app. I haven't blogged about my project in a while but I have been making changes and progress ever so often.

It's time to show off more with a concept to one of the enemies. This will also introduce the enemy types which designed to be color coded. There are five different effects of enemies. Today I will introduce the Poison/Confusion effect and the color code is Purple:
About:
This guy is the 'undead' version of the reapers. He moves quite slow but don't let his scratch get to you. It will leave you taking damage each second until you kill it.

So I've tweak the story of the game that I am finally comfortable with (though who is worrying about story in this game hehe, but I wanted to just finalize the premise of the whole thing). It is going to be in the new Kickstarter initiative link but I will post here also.

----The game of Reap! is a fast-paced Arena Arcade Action game about Reapers who have opposed Death's idea of 'stealing'
souls from victims. So Death, being the
classy guy he is, pits the main character named Merik on a challenge to
try and take back the souls from him in the form of an arena game full
of his minions. The story is a play on the saying 'Reap what you sow' though in this game you are reaping what Death 'sowed'----

Look forward to more dev updates later.

Happy Reaping!

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11594528820855043239noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489126680057980260.post-5156103156085589122012-05-17T00:42:00.000-04:002012-05-17T00:42:02.407-04:00No Updates In A While? :(Hey,

Sorry for not updating the project in a while. I am making this late post because of some exciting news. The reason for no updates is that I just don't have much time anymore because of busy scheduling with life, so when I am not updating I am using the time to develop the game, don't worry.

I have a few revelations. Over the course of the development, I have realized that I could expand my audience by developing the game for multiple platforms. Unity3D allows easy porting to other platforms with just one click of the button. What I didn't reveal is that I was also testing the game for the PC/Mac over the December-January holiday period (I have awesome working controls for these versions).

Then later I made the decision that I should just develop the game completely for the PC/Mac too in addition to the iOS builds. So thats one announcement - PC/Mac versions have been in the works but under wraps :)

Also the next big news is that I have submitted the project to Kickstarter to see if I can boost my funding resources. This will help quite a lot so please pledge when the site launches. Thank you!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11594528820855043239noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489126680057980260.post-60420869824454266152011-12-03T09:25:00.001-05:002011-12-03T09:37:16.977-05:00Introducing EnemiesHey all,

Today I will introduce the different types of enemies that are being created for Reap! There are four categories that enemies fall into: Melee, Projectile, Hybrid, and Support. Melee enemies only attack from up close, Projectile enemies only fire projectiles of course, Hybrids are a combination of both Melee and Projectile, while Support enemies are only around to boost their fellow friends' abilities (more health, stronger attacks etc). I will post the design of two of these categories for today. Notice how their names all end in -Reaper ;-)
It is a system that dynamically changes your attacks based on how well you are doing in scoring multiple successful combo hits. It is called the DAC System (Dynamic Attack Combo System). Clever, eh?

Onto the animations. These 3 animations make up the default attack combo when attack button is pressed successfully:

You probably cannot see this based on the viewing angle, but these combo animations are being created to stop at points where other animations can be created from the end frames. Just ties in with the DAC System perfectly. See you next time!

*Note : The speed of the animations are tweaked in game to flow naturally.

This is the first in the multitude of animations I will be posting about. As you can see, he is running with arms and legs fully extended, and his coat end nicely flowing along.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11594528820855043239noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489126680057980260.post-80262262573488814022011-08-15T22:06:00.001-04:002011-08-15T22:07:26.556-04:00So...The Art Direction??Hey, so I haven't spoken about the art direction for the app yet, and this would be the best time share this info (since I wouldn't want to be talking about it after showing screens :-P ).

I've decided to go for a cartoon-y art direction, with outlines to finish off the look. One reason for this direction is that I realized that this type of direction works really well with iOS/mobile devices and the art just pops with the resolution of the iDevices. Plus with this direction, I don't need gritty details, just make it simple and clean so I can be able to push more things on the device other than art. This works out really well. The art direction will be unveiled soon, stay 'tooned'! ;-)
He wields a Scythe, called the Perma-Scythe, as his main weapon and is the melee character of the group. These are the designs:

This is a fast paced 3D Action-Arena game that involves fighting waves of reaper enemies, collecting the souls that they drop to create combos and end with a high score of pooled souls.

That's the gist of the story, now on to showing actual development work...tomorrow.. :)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11594528820855043239noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489126680057980260.post-131579329057985572011-08-09T22:14:00.003-04:002011-08-09T22:20:40.286-04:00My Apologies for downtime...I apologize for the long hiatus. I've wanted a main script so I can control the speed of ANY animation of ANY Gameobject at ANY point in game, so created this and it's as easy as using ONE line of code. :) Great for speeding or slowing down animations that were too fast/slow when created in 3D Software, plus to have more control of giving a slowing/speeding up effect.
